IESU church of San Sebastain , Rafael Moneo


Iesu church of San sebastain, it was designed by Rafael moneo in 21st century.
 He incorporated the elements of the Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque. 
Moneo designed an understated composition of white cubes for the parish center and church.
To the east, a cut-out cross in the roof parapet identifies the church.

Materials 
  • Materials used for the construction are concrete blocks, white cement mortar,
  • Oak for altar, pulpit and benches.
 

PLAN 
  • The lofty church is rotated ten degrees to the hollow rectangle of parish center and projects into the park. A basement supermarket to provide income.
  • In ground floor, a central courtyard is surrounded by church, offices, meeting room and community room.
  • In second floor, have rehearsal room, organ and choir.
  • In third floor, apartments are provided as a source of income. 

SECTION

  • From this section we can see the height of church with respect to other spaces, the highness of the church gives an ambience.
  • The roof of the church was an irregular Greek cross, which immersed into a depth to leaving a space for natural light.

NATURAL LIGHTING


 
  • The church is remarkably bright, caused by various openings in the roof which enable the sun rays to be reflected onto the walls.
  • The bare walls absorbs and diffuse light.


CIRCULATION


  • The entry is from south, leading to a courtyard.
  • The church has two doorways, one from courtyard and one from entrance itself.

MASSING



Basic massing is the addition and subtraction of cubes.

SYMMETRY & AXIS


Church and complex have different axis intersect each other to form a balanced structure.

FLOORING TO CEILING

The irregular Greek cross defined by the angled walls of the baptistery, sacristy and chapels that occupy four corners of the square.
